Citrus As Wealth

Merging concepts from renaissance Florence about vessels of wealth through citrus, with ideas of the modern exploration of femininity, we invited a balance and active conversation in a Limonaia. We displayed an editorial photoshoot visualizing the narrative of exploitation and the artists personal relationship between beauty, wealth, and desire.

As the natural light changed from sunset to dusk, we lit the limonaia with citronella candles to give the ambiance a distinct citrus scent placing the viewers not only physically in between lemon trees, but mentally immersed as well. We created an audio to play throughout the exhibit to serve as a background to conversations about everybody’s thoughts on the subject.

Not only meant for viewing, our young audience members were invited with QR codes on each panel of photos, to activate our mini digital space where other inspiring cultural art centers hosting deeper events of local communities are highlighted.

After viewing the first set of photos, people would grab a drink of sparkling lemonade with a fizzy citrus candy that brought a zesty flavor, garnished with mint. Continuing through the photo walk, the emotions visually shifted to greed and solitude.
